Golden Globes 2011

I was looking for an excuse to procrastinate on papers tonight and decided to write up my review on the Golden Globe Awards this year! The whole night I was taking notes on the dresses the stars were wearing and the winners of the Golden Globes themselves. I'm a really huge dork if you haven't noticed. It's time for me to turn on some Of Montreal and start reviewing! I'm going to begin with my all time favoritest person at the Golden Globes, Natalie Portman. I love her work! I'm so glad she won best actress for Black Swan! She truly deserved it! That was such a difficult role to play! Her dress was so cute too! Since she's going to be a mother soon, her dress needed to be maternity-friendly. She ended up wearing Victor & Ralph in pink with a rose near the top! I thought it looked great on her!

Isn't she classy? I thought this dress looked really gorgeous on her! She's just too beautiful! Since I could probably go on all day about how amazing she looks, I'm going to have to stop myself here and move on! As much as I enjoy Carson Daily, I thought his co reporter for the event, Alexa Chung, a favorite of mine, upstaged him on the red carpet! She had such personality talking to the celebrities like they were all great friends of hers. I couldn't find too much of her in her dress (bright red Valentino, mind you), but I did find a picture of the Valentino model wearing it down the runway.

Alexa looked so cute in it as she entertained me for that somewhat boring hour before the actual show. She also revealed her three favorite dresses, including Natalie Portman's! Besides these two adorable dresses, I would love to keep going on and on about all the things I saw at the pre-show. But to save you the trouble, I'm just going to post pictures with captions that give the details on who wore it, designer, etc...

The gorgeous Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab! Looks as stunning as ever!

The adorable Amy Adams in Marchesa

Carrie Underwood wearing Badgley Mischka

Christina Aguilera, whom I'm not too big a fan of, wearing a gorgeous Zuhair Murad dress

I know Helena Bonham Carter might be getting a lot of crap for this dress, but I love it! Vivienne Westwood made it look great! It suits her so well! (PS, she should've won best supporting actress for King's Speech)

I love Sandra Bullock's Jenny Packham dress! It's so beautiful!

Another favorite of mine, Tina Fey, looks amazing in Lauren Scott. (sp?)
Now onto the dresses that I thought were a little bit..... horrible. I don't want to give too much thought to them, so I'm not even going to bother putting the designer down. (Plus I'm lazy and need to start working on other things soon)

Good try, Jane Lynch. Did you try to copy Ke$ha and make a dress out of a garbage bag too? Oh, and you also shouldn't have won the Golden Globe for Glee. Just saying.

Oompa Loompa Doompedy Doo, I've got another question for you. Why does she look like a tangerine in a shapeless dress? Emma Stone's new makeover isn't "Easy A" on the eyes.

Looks like Angelina got the ugly Christmas sweaters out a little late this year...

Who knew you could turn a snuggie into a dress, Catherine Zeta-Jones?
Moving on from the harsh criticism... Wait, not done yet. I wasn't happy that Glee kept winning everything. Their second season has been... ok. Just ok. Bear Shiny and I aren't big Glee fans, and we weren't too pleased with the results in the comedic tv show catagory. Also, I did see The Social Network. I mean, it was good and all, but I don't see why it won everything. The King's Speech and Black Swan I would place higher in the rankings than The Social Network. And I don't hate the Social Network at all, I loved the screenplay and knew that would win no doubt. Pluses for the evening were the Best actor and actress in a motion picture drama. Colin Firth in The King's Speech and Natalie Portman in Black Swan were excellent! If you haven't seen these movies, I recommend both of them with all of my being! Also, I really enjoyed Ricky Gervais. I know he got a lot of crap about "going over the boarder," but at least he made the night entertaining. The next awards show coming up is the Grammys! You can most certainly bet that I'm hoping the best for Florence + The Machine for best new artist! We'll see how that goes! It's time for me to get to work!

It's been awhile...

I apologize to all of you for being such a lazy person! Finals have been killer this week and I haven't had much time to post anything. Now that I have a longer weekend, I can finally get around to writing about some stuff. Since the last time you've heard from me I've cut my hair (See picture below)!  I've also received a new, red laptop with a webcam, meaning I can upload some screen shots I've been taking such as....
A picture of yours truly geeking out to some Narnia in horrible quality!  Anyways, along with all the new stuff I've mentioned thus far, I've also been listening to quite a few new bands! One in particular (that my amazing hairstylist suggested) is called Eisley. As soon as she mentioned it, I started geeking out, since Mos Eisley is the name of a place in Star Wars...

Their stuff has sort of a rock feel (always a plus), but their acoustic songs and live performances make me love them even more! The members of the band come from the same family and they have written their own music since they were little kids. I suggest you all check them out on youtube or their website http://www.eisley.com/index.php/. (PS, they have an album coming out in 2011!) Moving on, Bear Shiny and I were at Borders last night skimming through the new collection edition of Vogue. We saw quite a few of sheer pants and shirts in the Paris shows, and we weren't too pleased about it.

Something only Liza Minnelli would wear. No thanks. Something that did catch our eye, however, were two collections each with their own unique themes going on....

Alexander Mcqueen's spring collection that appeared in Paris looks like something out of Narnia! All the dresses in the collection are very unique, and I love the element of nature the designs have to them! (Not to mention they all look extremely magical) You can see the whole collection at http://www.alexandermcqueen.com/int/en/corporate/archive2011_sslook_womens.aspx?section=show_collection_lookbook

The Louis Vuitton summer collection for 2011 didn't disappoint! After the last season that came out, (a personal favorite of mine for last year) filled with long skirts and vintage-looking pieces, I had high expectations for the summer. The thing that I enjoy the most is the use of color in the collection, down to the painted toenails of the models! I love all of the bright, oriental-infused pieces designed by... I want to say Marc Jacobs. I'm pretty sure he designed it! Ads are already designed for this collection, and I love the makeup for it

You can see the whole fashion show here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_audWRKX48

I was disappointed at Miu Miu's collection, since I'm an avid lover of their feminine designs, but their shoes were fantastic! You can watch it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIBumv3yGUQ. I also recommend looking at the other designer's collections in the recommendations box. Unfortunately, I didn't get to finish the magazine, or find out if Tommy Hilfiger or Dolce and Gabbana had collections in it!

Also a new thing! In one of my last posts, I wrote that I wanted a less boring coat. Yesterday, I bought a new blue coat for $10! Should post pictures soon!

Keep warm and have a great winter! I'll try to post much more often!

Cheers!

PS, Golden Globes are Sunday! I'm very excited to see what my favorite stars will be wearing! (Sounds like a good idea for my next post...)

personal reflection with bear shiny

So, I do not know much about you guys but I know personally that I have been involved in and signed up for many, many, different social networking sites over the years. Since about 2008 I truly became involved in internet everything!

One site in particular that I have been on and off with is dailybooth.

Dailybooth is practically what it says it is, its a website that you post a picture of yourself daily to show after years of growth how much you change. There is a huge community behind it, you have your trolls, plenty of hipsters, LOTS of scene kids and many many more or less normal people. (I would kind of like to consider myself apart of the "normal people" but meh, I'm crazy)

Well, the reason why I am bringing this up is because I have been posting on dailybooth since about early 2009 which really baffles me because that basically means I am coming up on three years now in about two months.
scary.

Due to the new year, I decided to go through my pictures and reflect on the ways that I have grown and changed from age 15 through age 17.
And let me tell you now, there is a lot!

Its crazy to think this is my from 2009, I mean that was forever ago! I grew put of that shirt within a month, I broke those head phones after two usages, and I avoid having myself stay up that late on the computer during a school week. ( it was 3:00 in the morning in this picture!)
Summer 09'

(lover left) Church christmas party of 2009
(lower right) summer of 2009 wearing a vintage hat (can't find it anywhere any more!)

(top) First time going to salvation army, I got a TON of jewelery! (lost practically all of whats in the picture though)
(middle) Photo of my self highly edited, one of my favorites :)
(bottom) 2008, when I made The Ben Folds lip-sync of You Don't Know Me"

These are actually the most recent of my pictures from the last 1-4 months. I think that there is a signifigant difference and you look through the pictures of the ways I have grown.

 Dear goodness so much!
I feel as if I have solidly changed for the better. I have grown more confident in wearing what I really want to wear, I feel more independent, much less internet and camera awkward, and most of all more comfortable with who I am. I think that these pictures really show that way that I have grown. I feel as if this is a representation of the future possibilities That I have.
I would like to take this moment to recognize a few new years resolutions;

  1. regular blog posts that are NOT weeks upon weeks apart
  2. original images and photography of my own or that really and TRULY inspire me rather than simple examples
  3. regular video making on my youtube page
  4. more confidence in who I am and what I want to be
  5. no soft drinks! (they are horrid for you!)
  6. read more, like a LOT more
  7. &, continue to do all the things that make you happy
This is me at the moment of posting this blog, I hope to be here a year later with another post of some solid reflection. If you have any new years reflections of your own or resolutions that you want to keep this year, leave a comment and I will try to respond and help to support you all the way! I hope you are all inspired to start a dailybooth so that you can have something visual of yourself to look back at. I suggest it completely!
See you all soon!
